+ABOUT
A final project for my Interactive Media Design class. Our brief was to create a piece of interactive media for children, aged 7-11. The main requirements were to make use of a variety of media elements, such as animation, graphics and sound, to provide a non-linear experience. A fairy tale could be used as a the basis for a storyline, which I have done with my project.

+CONCEPT
This project saw a large number of changes during it's production. The first idea were for picture boosk based around "Rumplestiltskin" and "The Princess and the Pea", which ultimately failed as I couldn't come up with an interesting enough concept, or enough story paths.

I then decided to try using "Hansel and Gretel" for a similar idea. Each 'page' of the storybook would have used a single hand drawn drawing, and the story in text format with some games in between. I decided this idea didn't properly fit the target age range, and so I played around the concept of a game some more.

The next concept was for a maze game, where the player had to guide Hansel and Gretel through a number of levels and defeat the witch. A large amount of my time was used building up the mazes and implementing coding at this stage. Unfortunately, a number of errors kept the game from working properly, despite my attempts at fixing it. This idea ultimately ended up scrapped too.

With a week left, my final idea was a split path adventure game, much like the 'choose your own path' adventure books. I drafted out an map leading to a number of different endings and quickly began animating. The result was a piece of work I was very proud of, especially seeing how much it had changed in the 3 allocated months.

Due to the little time I had left, and errors with the file format, most of the original voices had to be dropped from the game, as there was no way to rerecord and implement it quickly. Controlling the speed of the text also had to be removed, as it became very buggy to use properly, and spoiled the flow of the game. Despite that, I am very happy with the final piece, and I feel it is one of my best animated pieces of work so far.
